De La Hoya

De La Hoya was a melodic hardcore band based out of NYC from 1998–2002. I started working with them in 2008—after touring with their later bands, Marathon and Nakatomi Plaza—for a discography that was to be released by Red Leader Records. The project ultimately lost steam, but over a decade later we revisited the design and created three digital releases and a limited edition silkscreened print.

the gatefold lp

Back in 2008 we completed the entire gatefold design for the double LP release. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond any of our control, the physical record was never produced. Hand-illustrated and inked, with mixed-media elements and digitally painted, the following images are mockups of what would have been.

fast forward

Over one decade and one pandemic later, we finally brought the discography to life—this time with the benefit of streaming audio like Bandcamp, Apple Music, and Spotify. There were three separate releases: the discography along with a surprise EP of new tracks and a b-sides/rarities collection. All profits were donated to Hollaback!—a program to stop anti-Asian/American harassment—and the TWEET Foundation, which helps the vulnerable transgender community in India.

frame-worthy

I've always loved a 'limited edition' version of [insert anything collectible here], especially when I get to create it. I took the original cover art and refreshed it with some new birds, a fresh inking, and a new composition for the 12x18 print—silkscreened on French Speckletone Cream by Atmosphere/Sire Press out of Philadelphia.
